Mudwave — Support and How It Works

This page explains Mudwave as the current build works. Mudwave is in development and is not yet available to download.

Mudwave is an accessible client for MUDs and other text game worlds, made by Digital Dragons Incorporated. It connects you to live text worlds — Miriani is prefilled and ready — and presents them screen-reader-first, with community soundpacks, spatial sound, haptics, and a low-vision visual layer. You play with your own account on each world; the worlds are run by their own operators.

Mudwave is not affiliated with Miriani or Toastsoft and is not an official client.

How it works

  1. Pick a world. Miriani is already in the list. To play somewhere else, add the world by its host and port; the app remembers it.
  2. Connect and sign in with your account on that world. Your password is kept in your device’s secure storage and is sent only to that world — never to us.
  3. Play. Read the game’s text in the output river, and send commands from the input line, the flick-list menus, the on-screen keypad, or gestures. Command history is always available when you need what you typed before.
  4. Make it yours. Choose sound themes and per-character profiles, set up session logs if you wish, and shape the play surface in Settings.

The companion (optional)

The app offers an optional companion — an on-device memory aid that can hold things such as where you are, what you were doing, and the rules and shortcuts you ask it to remember. It is off until you set it up. Setup presents a plain statement of what it is and is not — including that it uses AI, and that it is not a person and does not know you — and requires you to acknowledge it before anything is enabled. It runs entirely on your device. You can inspect what it remembers in each area, wipe any area, and switch it off with one act on the play surface.

Accessibility notes

Accessibility is the requirement in Mudwave, not a feature. The app was built screen-reader-first:

  • Every flow can be completed with a screen reader and a braille display alone.
  • Nothing is carried by a single sense: events sound, tap, and appear as text, and meaning is never carried by colour alone.
  • The visual layer is built for low vision: maximum contrast, large type and marks, and the starmap presented as a real navigable view instead of a grid of ASCII characters.
  • The app can be played in full with the companion off, or never set up. No core feature depends on it.

Known limits

  • Mudwave is in development. It is not in any app store yet, and distribution will be through this website, as with Mosaic and Pre-Flight. The next step before any release is a full phone test with a real login, live sound, and real haptics.
  • Head tracking from headphones: on iPhone the supporting module is written but has not yet been compiled or run on a device, so it is not claimed as working. On Android there is no platform route for apps to read earbud attitude, so head tracking is not built there. The phone’s own orientation does drive the listener in the current build.
  • Soundpacks are credited in layers in the app: the distribution site by its own name, and the writer by name where known. One set of sounds — Draak’s 53 crafting sounds from Mush-Z — is used only with permission, which has been asked for and is awaiting an answer.
